- The Tibet Institute is supported by the “Tibet Institute Rikon” foundation, which was established in 1967.
- The foundation is responsible for providing the monastic community with the necessary infrastructure, as well as the financial means for running and maintaining the monastery.
- To support scientific research in the field of Tibetology.

- The “Tibet Institute Rikon” foundation is a private non-profit foundation supervised by the Swiss Federal Department of Home Affairs and led by a foundation board.:

- Honorary member of the foundation board was Prof. Dr. Richard R. Ernst 1933-2021, Professor em. Swiss Federal Insitute of Technology in Zurich. In 1991, Richard R. Ernst won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his “contributions to the development of the method in nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR spectroscopy)”.
