Milarepa became enlightened which is according to the Buddhist teachings equivalent to be completely sane, a famous poet & a founder of of the Kagyüa school of Tibetan Buddhism not by traveling there:

But by travelling to India with his teacher Marpa,

who failed to teach him to become enlighened.

An Indian Guru
gave the whole teaching,
