This is the hypothesis of Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org, who studied the reviews of DC Rainmaker during the last 10 years as well, but stopped doing this after he had a closer look at the scientific papers which are available about consumer grade optical heart rate monitors:
DC Rainmaker started 10 years ago reviewing optical heart rate monitors such as the Mio Link ANT+/Bluetooth Smart optical heart rate wrist band:

But over the last 10 years, Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org found no papers about optical heart rate monitors in the scientific literature which stroke him, and would make those interesting for physiologists like those of the Meditation Research Institute Switzerland (MRIS)
Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org observed a similar phenomeon with BITalino & OpenBCI over the last 10 years:
And the second hypothesis of Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org is, that YouTube video makers are the garbage can of companies who gave up products, but then offer them to YouTube video makers to make money out of those.
