The authors compared the accuracy of a AR12plus Holter monitor:

to the Polar H10 chest strap.

The authors found out that the

inaccuracy of the AR12plus Holter monitor ECG is 94.6 %

whereas the

inaccuracy of the Polar H10 is 99.63 %.

They concluded the the Polar H10 is a Gold Standard ECG heart rate monitor reference device. We cannot follow this conclusion. There are ECG devices on the market with much higher quality than the AR12plus Holter monitor ECG, for instance the:

The AR12plus Holter monitor ECG has no motion artifact removal support. It is highly desirable that new studies are performed with reference devices of a higher quality with the standard of the following papers:

It is also highly desirable, that for heart rate monitor validations, only devices with the highest accuracy standards are choosen.

First studies with ranking of the most accurate heart rate devices are published. More studies with high quality reference devices and a reproducable protocols are required to bring clarity to the confusing situation in the field of heart rate monitor validation.
