The easiest way for folder sharing we found is in Ubuntu. With newer versions it would for instance be possible from a Pi running Ubuntu to share a folder to a desktop PC running ubuntu:

These are the easiest ways for folder sharing we know. But if we use a device based on a Raspberry Pi we would preferentially choose Raspberry Pi OS instead of Ubuntu because of it’s long history of development:

The easiest way we found to solve this problem for us personally is not to use folder sharing but to use NextCloudPi instead.
