We have published here our evaluation of OpenBCI to use it for scientific studies:
And here what we can do with it:
We do not know any Mediation Research Institutes around the world who have a grant for meditation research. Meditation researcher can use this setup instead of Richard Davidsons fmRI & 256 EEG channel setup if their budget does not allow to use the setup the group or Richard Davidson has used.
OpenBCI has OpenBCI GUI, but still we miss software components such as SQlite, InfluxDB or respiration rate estimation based on ECG as an easy downloadable software as for instance Neurokit2:

Neurokit2 is a Python toolbox for neurophysiological signal processing, but has no support for EEG. Therefore is this setup not superior to Neurokit2 for meditation researchers? Hopefully a research group will pick it up and publish a paper about it. We will code the software by ourselves sooner or later but this will take a lot of time for physiolgists like us, developers welcome to participate.
We are promoting open source soft- and hardware since we suppose that it is difficult to make money out of these products, and we suppose that an open source community will have the largest community.
