Scientists are beginning to unravel a mystery that has long vexed philosophers.»
By Christof Koch

published in on 9 May 2018 in Nature.
The question what concousness is is also asked in different spiritual traditions such as
Buddhism:
And Sikhsm
«According to Sikh philosophy, parmatma is self-illuminated pure consciousness. This Consciousness is the ground of being, the ultimate reality whose infinite variety of manifestations are the world of phenomena»:

This book about concousness in Sikhsm is publshed by
Davinder Singh Panesar:
Has a master of science in Consciousness and Transpersonal Psychology, and is a regular international speaker about Spirituality, Meditation, Mysticism, Self-growth and Self-realisation.
Davinder Singh Panesar is for us personally difficult to understand as non Sikhs, but still interesting. The question what concousness is is asked by Cristoph Koch, Buddhist and Sikhs. And what they answer is different. The approach Cristoph Koch has chosen to answer this question is through natural science, and the approch from Buddhists and Sikhs is trough other methods such as introspection. This is also a scientific approach, but currently lacks of scientic proof based on natural science.
