Over the last 3 years we have evaluated on many of our 2,518 posts in our journal low-cost high-quality physiological sensor devices. The goal of the Meditation Research Institute Switzerland (MRIS) is to study the effect of practicing meditation on physiological parameters, and not to develop or sell physiological sensor devices. Out of the many devices which we evaluated the following currently fit’s best for our needs:
- Low-cost high-quality ECG devices based on 3 channel OpenBCI:
- Eventually combined with HeartPy:
which we suppose should work with (1), but we haven’t tested this yet.
- A Novel OpenBCI Framework for EEG-Based Neurophysiological Experiments: a Cyton 16 channel EEG headset & WIFI shield:
Altough these ECG & EEG devices currently fit’s best for our needs we haven’t used and tested those. We did not even completely read the validation papers. To use these devices and to test what we can do with those takes time. These devices are more difficult to handle than an Apple watch or a Muse headband, but they offer many advantages these devices do not have.
