Quote from Joseph Artuso at 1:31 in the video:
«AI is a key piece in OpenBCI’s effort to turn the ocean of physiological data into meaningful insights.”
Gamma waves appear in the brain when the brain turns the ocean of physiological data into meaningful insights. This is explained in the following video by Daniel Goleman.
Goleman is co-author of Richard Davidson in the book «Altered Traits»:
At 1 min in the video Daniel Goleman says:
“All of us get gamma for a very short period when we solve a problem we have been grabbling with, even if it is something which vexed us for month. We get about half a second of gamma. It is the stongest wave in the EEG spectrum.”
According to Matthieu Ricard, Buddhist monk with a PhD. in Cellular Genetics who participated in scientific studies with Richard Davidson:
at 17:09 he says:
«People who have more gamma wave activity on the right site of the pre-frontal cortex are more depressed, withdrawn, they do not describe a lot of positive affect. People who have more gamma wave activity on the left site of the pre-frontal cortex have a tendancy to altruism, happiness, to express, curiosity and so forth»
To localize gamma waves on the left or the right prefrontal cortex as much electrodes as possible are required. In the lab where these studies where performed by Richard Davidsons group where Mathieu Ricard participated:
https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.0407401101
they used 256 electrodes. Gamma waves are the fastest brain waves and require fast EEG devices. We do not know if someone has ever studied this phenomenon with OpenBCI. But to test this it requires the maxiumum which is possible with OpenBCI and that is a 16 EEG channel device with WIFI shield, as described in this validation paper:
If this does not work with OpenBCI it eventually works with this device from g.tec medical:
Choose this device if your budget allows for such gamma wave studies or go to a lab where they have a 256 channel device.
