A scientist like Rob ter Horst can compare the accuracy of 100 smartwatches on YouTube in a single plot. But what strikes us the most is that Rob, altough he calls himself «The Quantified Scientist» he does not show numerical and statistical data in tables which can be verified since he does not publish his testing protocols. And Rob has not chosen the most accurate reference devices such a 3 channel ECG devices which are the most accurate devices if intense activities with strong body movements are not investigated. Why not? To make us believe that these devices are very accurate and not to beat as far as accuracy is concerned?
Consumer grade sports watches offer many data analysis platforms such as Garmin Connect where we can see all kinds of tables and plots. We can look at the data and see relative changes but we know of hardly any data analysis tools which deliver us numerical and statistical data which can be verified. This is similar to what Rob ter Horst offers us.
This means we can observe relative changes of these paramaters but if we are looking for absolute values which we can verify we need different devices and software tools. We do not know of any data analysis software which would be helpful for us personally and for our application which is offered by the developers of consumer grade heart rate monitor.
