Olympic level meditator Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche s family could not afford a three wheeler, when he was a child, although he dreamed of it:
Unfortunately, Richard Davidson s research project with Olympic champion meditators has been discontinued, as far as I know. No research grant available? I suppose the Olympic level meditators live a simple life, and cannot afford Matlab Standard Edition, and I suppose most Buddhist monks cannot afford even a Garmin watch.
To study the effect of practicing meditation on physiological parameters, devices need to be affordable, as long as there is no research grant available, else they will not be successful. Only few are practicing meditation on a daily basis. The more affordable the devices are, the bigger the community is which uses those.
Also me personally, altough I am Swiss, there is no research grant available, and the goal is to establish low-cost high quality devices for technology assisted practice of meditation as well as for meditation research, which might be successful on the long-term.
