Is OpenBCI dead & long live PiEEG?

“The king is dead, long live the king!”is a traditional proclamation made following the accession of a new monarch in various countries. The seemingly contradictory phrase simultaneously announces the death of the previous monarch and asserts continuity by saluting the new monarch»

As we have discussed previously, there are hardly any new developements for OpenBCI. So is OpenBCI dead? Do we have alternatives? Yes we have, and these are for instance HackEEG, PiEEG and Emotiv Epoc Flex. If we are familiar with Arduino Due, LabStreamingLayer, etc, HackEEG is a great choice, and HackEEG should be available again latest by the end of this year.

Eventually easier than HackEEG is PyEEG, since it is a Raspberry Pi EEG shield for the Raspberry Pi 3 or 4, devices which are very popular and have a large community. We already found a view examples for PiEEG, altough it is not on the market yet:

PiEEG developer Ildar Rakhmatulin from Heriot-Watt University in Scottland presents the PiEEG for measuring EEG signals:

Ildar believes that PiEEG is one of the easiest way to enter Neuroscience:

Ildar Rakhmatulin shows how to control a robot by our mind andPiEEG:

Tech News Today shows how our thoughts can control a Raspberry Pi with PiEEG:

Unfortunately, PIEEG with 4 channels will only ship at Nov 29, 2023 and with 8 channels at Apr 29, 2024.We think this is a pity that the new and promising platfrom PyEEG is not available right now. Since who wants to invest further in the developement of OpenBCI, if we have HackEEG and PyEEG? Do these two platforms not offer much more options for developement than OpenBCI? But we think also, that it will take time until we have a software support for HackEEG and PyEEG which is as good as for OpenBCI.
