Usb keyboards for single board computers – a good starting point for SBC keyboard support?

Last Updated on May 8, 2023 by pg@petergamma.org

  • What is a single board computer without a keyboard and mouse?
  • But we know of only view SBC that they support these input devices
  • without keyboard and mouse, it is difficult to work with those, or we eventually cannot use them
  • If we look at the Pinephone, we can see, that the device has already a longer development time than many SBCs.
  • The Pinehone has a demo with the Pinephone keyboard which is paired over POGO pins

and a Pinephone demo with an usb keyboard which is attached to an usb-c hub:

  • and Radxa zero developer Roberto Alsina has used a usb keyboard:

Is it by accidence that these developers used usb or pogo pin for pairing for keyboards and not Bluetooth pairing, which is eventually buggy or tricky? Do you have experience with for instance the Orange Pi 5 and usb keyboards? Please write it to the comments below.
