Issues with the Banana Pi BPI-M2 Berry which allows installation of the Raspian OS

Last Updated on April 30, 2023 by pg@petergamma.org

  • The video only shows camera recording and a heatmap dated 2017.
  • The Raspbian version is from the year 2017.
  • Does the device not work with a ewer versions?
  • The recordings in the video are from the year 2017, but the video was released a view day ago.
  • Is there any new substance in it?
  • The only new thing we can see that it runs a 2017 version of Raspian, but id does not show how it performs.
  • The device can compete with the Raspberry Pi 3 on Ricardo Switzerland as far as it´s price is concerned.
  • The device has to proof that it can compete with a Raspberry Pi on the software site, for instance by installing Armbian on it, and demonstrate it s function with LibreOffice and Chromium as shown here:

issues:

  • we miss usb3 connectivity
  • the YouTube demo shows camera images of heat on the SBC motherboard
  • We miss a performance demo of the Raspbian OS.
  • we we miss a proof that apps run on the device under Raspberry Pi OS.
  • If apps do not work on Raspberry Pi OS, is it not better to choose another OS as for instance Armbian?
  • The Bananapi M2U is listed as supported by Armbian:
  • There are forum entiries for the Banana Pi M2 Berry in the Armbian forum:

  • The last entry was on on 26. Juni 2018, then the forum was locked.
  • On these low power devices, it is highly desirable to have a light-weight Linux distribution such as Armbian which runs on it.
  • We miss a proof of function of Armbian running on the The Banana Pi BPI-M2 Berry.
