To compare data from to data shown in our previous post, whe show here the data from the PinePhones:
PinePhone. Chipset: Allwinner A64
• CPU: 64-bit Quad-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex A-53
• GPU: MALI-400MP2
PinePhone Pro: Rockchip RK3399S
• CPU: 64-bit 6-core 4x ARM Cortex A53 + 2x ARM Cortex A72 @ 1.5GHz
• GPU: Mali T860MP4
- A key parameter for our own special application is battery life.
- Chris Titus Tech indicates a 2.5 running time at full speed, check the exact values yourself if you want to be sure, which up to 12 hours.
- There are reports in the Pine64 forum about a running time of up to a full day with optimized settings, a number which has also been indicated by Chris Titus Tech.
- The PinePhone keyboard has an additional battery pack to extend battery life.
- We did not do any tests about this topic ourselves.
- We did a preliminary tests with a Raspberry Pi 4 connected to a 10 000 mAh battery running Ubuntu Mate, battery life was around four hours.
- For us personally it was much easier to connect an external keyboard, an external mouse and a HDMI monitor to a Raspberry Pi4 than to a PinePhone.
- With a running time of around four hours with a Raspberry Pi 4 with a 10 000 mAh we need 6 battery packs to run the device for 24 h, which is not very handy.
- We therefore are evaluating to use a Raspberry Pi zero 2 for our own special application with less power consumption.
- Altough we are evaluating the PinePhone since several years, we do not know of examples which show a PinePhone which is used as a mobile data acquisition system.
- Android phones with Android apps are sometimes used for this purpose, as for instance the Android App a Training Tracker of Dr. Ing. Rainer Blind.
- Android phones nowadays have a running time which allows the phone to run easy for a full day without the need of an additional battery pack.
- But is this also possible with a PinePhone? We did not yet test this yet.
Our next tests will be performed with a Raspberry Pi zero 2 w which we bought from Ricardo Switzerland. If we need more Raspberry Pi zero 2 w devices, more can be bought from there, as well as a lot of Raspberry Pi accessories.
