Peter Charlton from University of Cambridge has a Matlab Respiratory Rate Estimation Toolbox and published several papers about respiratory rate, Talha Iqbal, Doctoral Researcher at University of Galway, Ireland has Python examples for Respiratory Rate Estimation on his YouTube channel. We did not go through the literature about this topic yet. Peter Charlton says, his Respiratory Rate estimation works also for clinical applications in Hospital.
But we do not know of anyone who uses respiratory rate estimation for clinical applications, we are interested since several years in respiratory rate, and did not go through Peter Charltons PhD thesis about it, and know little about the literature about this topic. Is it not used in hospitals in way that we know from it, since it is not accurate enough? There was a Paper from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne which uses the Polar H10 chest strap for respiratory rate estimation in the Sensors (Basel) journal. The accuracy is better than from a Garmin Fenix 6, but still not very accurate. Is the problem of Respiratory Rate estimation accuracy? Or is the topic not interesting enough to work further on it?
