Jacques Kuhn from the Swiss company Kuhn Rikon founded the Tibet Institute in Rikon Switzerland. A Swiss Federal Council decision in 1963 proved to be a stroke of luck for the company. Switzerland granted asylum to 1,000 Tibetans. The brothers Henri and Jacques Kuhn provided some of them with housing they had built for new employees. Immigration suited the company. She struggled with staff shortages and was able to hire new workers as a result.
After increasing problems in the Tibetan community, the Kuhn family remembered an idea from an expert: In order to be able to better support the refugees spiritually and religiously, a monastery should be built. In 1967, the brothers Henri and Jacques Kuhn established the Tibet Institute Foundation.
They granted her capital of 100,000 francs and the necessary building land, as stated in an anniversary publication.
It was the beginning of a unique success story. In 2014, the Dalai Lama said: The Tibet Institute has made a valuable contribution to the understanding of Tibetan culture over many years, he said. He is grateful to the founders for this. For Jacques Kuhn, the institute was a matter of the heart.
